Handmade in Western Australia by Chris Busby. The box features a very attractive Jarrah case and a lid panel of beautifully figured Tasmanian Leatherwood.
The box has a removable tray. The inner lid, tray and inner base are lined with faux suede fabric that will prove as long-lasting as it is attractive.
The overall box dimensions are 300 x 185mm and is 95mm in height.
The lid is hinged such that it stops at just over 90 degrees to preclude the need for intrusive lid stays.
The box pictured is the one being purchased.
With its beautiful rich colours, interesting grain and occasional gum veins, Jarrah remains one of the world’s most desirable and sought after hardwoods. The tree grows to a majestic 40 metres in height only in the south west corner of Western Australia.
Leatherwood (Eucryphia lucida) trees are found as an understory tree endemic to Tasmania. They can be found in the wetter valleys and rugged western mountain regions where there is a high rainfall. Mostly growing to a height of 15m, but they can reach 30m. The Leatherwood tree can live for 250 years. It grows well alongside the Sassafras, Blackwood and Myrtle species.
